Western Australia has recorded its fourth day in a row of no new cases of coronavirus however the state's death toll has risen to nine after an elderly woman died.

Premier Mark McGowan said the state had recorded just two new cases of the virus in the past week, bringing the number of ‘active’ cases as of Sunday to 19 while 523 had recovered.Credit:He said the 83-year-old West Australian woman who died had serious pre-existing medical conditions and contracted the virus from a close contact before being admitted to hospital in mid-April.“It’s heartbreaking to hear another West Australian has lost their life to COVID-19,” he said.

“We do need to remain disciplined. We are still in a state of emergency, and we will be for some time to come.” He said the majority of people had done the right thing but for those “who blatantly flout law don't, for one second think you will get away with it”. “The person appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was remanded in custody to reappear on the 11th of May.“Don't be an idiot. We're all in this together, follow the health advice, follow the rules, keep social distancing and keep up the good personal hygiene.”There’s pressure around freeing up intrastate restrictions as early as Friday but Mr McGowan says that’s unlikely and would depend on medical advice.
