WA woman accused of attempted insulin murder of disabled daughter says her only intention was to get her into hospitalA WA woman, who can't be identified for legal reasons, is on trial in the Supreme Court accused of trying to murder her severely disabled daughter using an insulin injection.Today the woman told the jury she never intended to kill the child, and only wanted to get her into hospital for treatment.
It meant the child had cerebral palsy and profound neurological damage, which left her unable to talk, walk and eat. "I knew she was disabled and would probably not progress … but we could get her to have a beautiful life … and be comfortable," she said. The woman told the court her visits to Dr Austin became more frequent and at one point he asked for the girl to be urgently assessed in hospital, but the request was denied.
The woman said while she was concerned about the legalities of the suggestion, she accepted a prescription he wrote. When asked by her lawyer what her intention was, the woman replied: "My intention has always only been to use it to get her into hospital via symptoms that would arise from a very small amount of it."
