The largest W hotel in the world also has a 30-metre open-air infinity pool, a 2am desert bar and a distinctive curved building.

It’s sandwiched between two of Sydney’s busiest expressways with a view of Darling Harbour rather than the Emerald City’s classic tourist-pleasing icons, the Sydney Opera House and harbour bridge.

“Who’d have thought you could end up with the most expensive house in town in what was usually considered to be the worst part of town until fairly recently,” Dransfield Hotels and Resorts owner and managing director, Dean Dransfield, told“Darling Harbour used to be the wart on the hide of Sydney; W is the final jigsaw piece in turning that around,” he said, adding it comes after the new International Convention Centre was unveiled, followed by Crown Towers Sydney in nearby Barangaroo .

“It’s super exciting to see the hotel open on this beautiful harbour precinct after the delays,” said Mr Marriott, who is based in the US mid-Atlantic state of Maryland. “I can’t wait to bring my family here.” “One of the former interested parties back in 2016 dropped out as they were concerned there was a smoke stack coming up from the freeway,” Mr Dransfield said. “The engineers said yes, but it’s cleaner than the air coming from the freeway.”
