New Virgin Australia chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka has initiated a bold plan to revive the ailing airline – and she's starting at the top | domp

Virgin Australia has poached Woolworths' second-in-command David Marr to be its new chief financial officer in a major boost for new chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka's plans to revive the fallen airline.

Jetstar Japan co-CEO Nick Rohrlach will join as the chief executive of its loyalty program Velocity, and International Airlines Group's Alistair Hartley will be Virgin's chief transformation officer. A2 Milk's current chief people officer, Lisa Burquest, will join Virgin in the same role. Arnott's corporate affairs chief, Moksha Watts, will also join as corporate affairs officer.

Virgin is currently in the process of rebuilding and relaunching itself as a mid-market carrier with the backing of private equity giant Bain Capital following its collapse into administration last year at the hands of the COVID-19 pandemic. The recovery has been further stymied by intermittent closures of state borders as coronavirus outbreaks continue to occur, with Ms Hrdlicka calling for a unified approach by local premiers.

domp So Virgin Australia will save itself by spending big money on new executives who lack extensive airline experience

domp The Aviation Industry takes a special kind of person to work in it. People need vast amounts of aviation operational experience to draw on when making high level decisions. Taking on Execs with a non-aviation background is not going to aid an Airline that is treading water.

domp Wow, that should work well. Hire 2 Execs that have Airline Experience with the rest of them working in the Corporate World. That'll definitely help with high level decision making for an Airline that's in crisis mode. Strap yourself in VirginAustralia employees...

domp Maybe she can bring her mates from Woolworths that did such an outstanding job with Masters.

domp CovidSARS2 has assigned Virgin to mediocrity for foreseeable future

domp Great surname for a lesbian
