Virgin Australia has announced further cuts as the coronavirus crisis continues to savage the airline industry, saying it is reducing its domestic capacity by 90 per cent and standing down 8,000 of its 10,000 staff.The 8,000 staff being stood down will take leave without payThe company said in a statement to the ASX that it would ground 125 domestic aircraft from Friday and all Tigerair Australia services will be temporarily suspended, effective immediately.
Mr Scurrah thanked staff for helping Australians get home ahead of the various federal and state travel restrictions. "We are talking to our teams and we are working hard to do what we can to protect jobs and extend payments for as long as possible."

Perhaps they can repurpose some of the fleet for international freight. Qantas also. Desperately needed medical and PPE supplies sit in Singapore in particular for days awaiting air cargo availability.
