Australia’s east coast is being battered by ‘violent’ and ‘explosive’ thunderstorms as southern states brace for falling temperatures.

More thunderstorms are forecast to hit southeast Queensland and northern NSW on Wednesday as Victoria and Tasmania brace for up to four consecutive cold fronts and falling temperatures across the weekend.

Wellcamp, Newtown and Toowoomba all saw hail sized between 3cm to 5cm at about 8pm, with Toowoomba also copping 45mm of rain in just 30 minutes.Michelle Mish-Wills photo of hail in Newtown on May 11, 2021. Sky News chief meteorologist Tom Saunders said southeast Queensland and eastern NSW were experiencing a “late season storm outbreak”.Source:News Regional Media“The storm season generally finished up in April but right now we’re seeing explosive storms in this region,” he said. Mr Saunders said severe storms were “essentially guaranteed” in southeast Queensland and northeast NSW on Wednesday with further damaging winds, hail and flash flooding.Residents have captured footage of hail smashing down across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.
