Melbourne Victory have been fined $5000 by Australian soccer’s governing body after a small group of fans directed homophobic chants at the world’s only openly gay male top-tier footballer | soccer fans homophobia MickLynch_Age

Victory investigations to identify all the perpetrators are ongoing, but the FA commended the league leaders for condemning the incident and taking steps to weed out the culprits. Victory will ban the perpetrators from future matches.

Their commitment to work with supporters to take additional steps to educate other fans about diversity and inclusion; “We have tens of thousands of spectators attend football stadiums each week in our season. This is a case of a small number of individuals acting in a way that does not reflect the values of our sport. To be clear, the actions of the spectators responsible for using homophobic slurs against Josh Cavallo were completely unacceptable.
