The stark separation between the public and private sector in Victoria has been brought into focus by a two per cent per annum public servant pay rise negotiated by the Andrews government according to Sky News host Rita Panahi. The pay rise decision followed a deal which was struck between the Victorian government and the unions.
Ms Panahi said “this is just a slap in the face for people who have lost their livelihoods, lost their businesses, are wondering how they are going to be paying for the mortgage and yet you’ve got public servants getting a pay rise”. She pointed out the pay rise decision coincided with an increase in the Victorian payroll tax. The public sector and the private sector seem to be “two different worlds,” she told Sky News host Chris Smith.
