Healthcare workers continue to struggle to get hold of personal protective equipment and fear they may be facing even more shortages as cases climb and the Victorian Government recommends everyone in the state starts using masks.

He said all staff were told by management at 5:30pm on Friday to hand in any unused masks and told they would have to be requested from now on.Disability worker Vasalia, who preferred to not use her last name, worked in disability care until early June and said she was bartering with other staff for gloves and hand sanitiser until the day she left.

"In disability, the supply of PPE has been absolutely problematic the whole time. It's better now than it was four months ago but staff are being told to use it sparingly and only in emergencies."Mr Healey said disability care workers were often more at risk of catching illnesses because clients often did not understand physical distancing.

He said while the response when a client or staff member tests positive to the virus was "perfect", more needed to be done to prevent people from catching it in the first place."There's a hierarchy of needs; it's hospitals first, then it flows down and disability is at the end of the line."

Just what part of its responsibilities can the Victorian government handle? Couldn’t manage hotel quarantine and now doesn’t have enough PPE to protect those who must clean up the mess. resignDanAndrews springst CovidVic PPE auspoI

Sorry, the money went to useless grants for druggies and career unemployed...

We have only just got gloves back in supply where I work. Gowns and masks still rationed

This is a story about a survey, not reality, promoted by a law firm. There is no shortage, but a lot of understandable anxiety. Masks have to be rationed because people steal them otherwise. This is not responsible reporting. Just preying on worried health workers.

Oh my. So is this Scomo's fault or the state that runs health care? Same question for the ABC reporting shortages in Democrat US states. Why shift the blame to Trump?

That is unacceptable, victorian health minister JennyMikakos needs to fix that problem

That will get worse given that the DanielAndrewsMP TimWattsMP and the AMA recommend that people wear face masks in public places

We need a NATIONAL strategy. WHERE is THE PM?

.This is unacceptable. WHY IS MORRISON ALWAYS MIA?

So Scumo announced something - a PPE stockpile - but didn't actually do it, again? COVID19Au AusPol

This is a massive issue, even if there are stockpiles somewhere they will run out very quickly. Health care workers are putting their lives at risk because of this.

So people are getting locked up and the economy suffers because of govt mismanagement in providing insufficient PPE to HCWs?!

Ask them to buy from India

Much respect for our health workers on the front line. DanielAndrewsMP

This was the story 6 months ago. Did no one fix the problem?

Truth of CCPVirus is about to come out! Also included the most important protect advices for every one: theWhistleblowerMovement

If this is true now after what has already happened and the time they have had heads should really roll. This is crazy, so crazy it makes me wonder if it is actually true.

Are the aged care facilities privately owned, or state run? I'm asking because if they're not state run the owners should be providing their workers with PPE not the state and the state should be looking after their workers in public hospitals etc

Unbelievable... we’ve had months to prepare the PPE but still are still in shortage

Scomo goes on holiday while there is a PPE shortage?

What happened to the huge stockpile the fed govt said it had in storage? I recall hearing about shortages since March - can't have been much of a stockpile.

I have purchased my own PPE. Disposable and re-useable after disinfecting. There is nothing stopping workers getting their own equipment. I have bought some things in bulk from suppliers. Not idea but better than going short in an infectious workplace. You are number one.

Why hasn't Chairman Andrews called his buddies in China for help.

Christ as if didn’t have enough time to prepare. Yep that’s Labor for you.

.... And just remember our wise federal govt could gave aggressively persued an Elimination strategy, but CHOSE NOT TO...

unacceptable. We've had a long time to prepare.

More COVID-19 outbreaks detected in hospitals as ER chief isolatesCoronavirus outbreaks have spread through two more emergency departments at major Melbourne hospitals, causing more than 50 frontline healthcare workers to be sidelined after potential exposure to the virus bencubby These people get coffees etc in Gertrude street is anything being done about that ? drajm we need to sort our shit here before it’s our colleagues. The standard PPE guidelines in Aust are inadequate against this monster. It is insidious, and as I’ve been saying from the start AIRBORNE. If we are going into battle, we need armour, not a crappy gown dust mask. Past 2 weeks over 200 flights have arrived into NSW from Vic. Why has Gladys been so slow to react?

They're just 28km apart but the crossings at these two NSW border towns couldn't be more differentAway from the busy Albury-Wodonga crossing, life in Howlong on the NSW-Victorian border continues with little change — and a lot of local hospitality. We, the pure blood and the soil Australian Natives, allowed a few foreign white British mongrels to land on our beaches instead of banning them on sight. Or killing them if they did. And we became victims of filthy foreign diseases they were carrying. NEVER AGAIN! It’s mental. The MLB outbreak is 300 clicks away. Surely the MLB outbreak should be more quarantined more locally? Say specific postcodes? Why the entire State subjected to it is beyond me. Why is this police officer not wearing a face mask? All police at the crossings with Victoria should wear face masks.

Families warned to brace for visitor restrictions at aged care centresFamilies with loved ones in aged care centres have been warned to brace for stricter visiting restrictions after COVID-19 cases linked to another six centres. There have been a total of 22 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Victoria out of a population of over 6 million people since this started five months ago. This thing has barely touched Australia and yet Australians are reacting crazier than anybody else in the Western world. Yeah, great idea. Keep them completely alone in their last years of life. Very humane.
