Only senior students to return to school as Victorian government locks down metro Melbourne | Sky News AustraliaThousands of students in Victoria will have their school holiday extended for at least a week, with only Year 12, 11, and some year 10 students allowed to return to face-to-face learning as the state government locks down parts of Melbourne due to COVID-19.\n\nFrom 11:59pm 8th of July, those who live in the Metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shires will be unable to leave their residence for six weeks unless it is for shopping for essentials, work, exercise and caregiving.\n\nStudents in regional Victoria will be able to return to school as normal.\n\nMr Andrews told reporters in Melbourne older students can be trusted to adhere to the state's strict social distancing restrictions.\n\n“Teachers will be at work, at school and they’ll be doing two things - preparing for whatever the balance of the term may look like and we’ll make further announcements once we see more data and once things are a little more settled days,” Mr Andrews said.\n\n“Giving parents as much notice as we can. And the second function at least some of those teachers will be performing is for parents who are working in essential jobs that can’t be done from home.\n\n“Those arrangements will be in place, Year 11 and 12 back to school and specialist schools back to school on Monday.
