Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that at 70 per cent double dose vaccination, lockdown will end, hospitality venues can reopen and school students will return to on-site learning for at least part of the week.

Health authorities said 43,441 vaccine doses were administered in the 24 hours to Saturday evening and more than 58,000 tests conducted.

"We aim to have 30 visitors in your home on Christmas Day," he said. "Christmas as close to normal as possible." Victoria's Chief Health Officer, Professor Brett Sutton, said the pressures on the health system are being balanced against the mental health impacts. All students will return to on-site and face-to-face learning for some period of time during the weekFor pubs, clubs, entertainment, the limit increases to 30 fully vaccinated patrons indoors

The workers said they were already burnt out and "fearful" of rising infections, with 207 cases in hospital, 56 in intensive care, and 40 on ventilators as of Saturday.

IF 70% fully vaccinated is the Vic aim, quickly then the fastest way to get there is to open Pfizer and Moderna eligibility to all age groups, especially those over 60. People don't want to have to wait 13 weeks for full coverage.

This is all assuming that we don’t get the mu strain which apparently is more deadly again than the delta

All restrictions need to end at 70 % Vax🚫 Redo your homework DanielAndrewsMP

Yeh but what is failing to be said here is that it won’t go back to normal . Things will open yes , but people will need vaccination passports , those passports will also need a booster shot to keep them valid , social distancing will probably still need to be in place etc etc

A weak-kneed response to the anti-lockdown resistance. I'd call in the army and fine the lot of them, then impose severe financial penalties for refusing to get vaccinated, and continue the lockdown until 95% are either vaccinated or previously infected.

70% of 'eligible' population is not 70% of the population. Doherty Report cites 80% of population.

so the medical segregation begins - what happens when like the UK and Israel, US etc all have massive spikes of fully 'vaccinated' people. This is coercion and forced medical procedure for u trial drug with zero long term effects known! Let the hard core riots begin!

This is what I wanted to hear freedom day not far away

Big BIG mistake. The Victorian Health system is not equipped to deal with this and it flies in the face of the ama_media advice published today on the revised Doherty modelling. This will overwhelm EDs and ICUs in Victoria. Non-COVID emergencies will suffer.

“Subject to health system capacity.”

Victoria sets new record with 535 COVID-19 cases amid crackdown on anti-lockdown protestsVictoria has recorded 535 new locally acquired COVID-19 infections and one death as Melbourne braces for an anti-lockdown protest rally. With a whopping 535 cases, I'd say that the top priority for Daniel Andrews is to get this outbreak under control. And stop blaming people from watching sunsets or wanting to play in playgrounds. VictoriaHasFallen The police should get some dart guns and load them with vaccines. When the protesters show up they can vaccinate the lot of them.
