Victoria’s second lockdown could cost $1 billion a week, risking the nation’s economic recovery, according to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

In May, Mr Frydenberg told the National Press Club the economy would suffer a $4 billion hit for every extra week the lockdowns remained in place.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said Victoria’s second lockdown poses a real risk to the nation’s economic recovery. Picture: Lukas Coch/AAPYesterday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews touched on the looming economic disaster in a press conference. “I had a conversation with the Prime Minister … I am confident that the Prime Minister knows and understands that there will be different forms of hardship in different parts of the country, different industry, different sectors,” he said.

“That may well be, given our circumstances, that may well be of additional benefit because we have additional need now and of course into the future.”

Are we really going to trust Josh’s calculations? Either way there is $60bn that he thought we already spent, that we didn’t, which means the first 60weeks is covered.

It’s always about the cost.....what about the benefit to people who value their health more? Not every family is affected by lockdowns.

$1 billion tax robbers murdoch group. You guys dont pay a cent back to country.

A terrible day for Victoria but decisive action had to be takenEditorial: The new and necessary lockdowns in Victoria are a stark reminder that coming to terms with this pandemic will take patience, co-operation and good leadership Really admire the swift and decisive actions taken by Victoria. If the British government were so decisive, we'd probably have saved the lives of thousands of Britons The worst part is , people suspect, the British government is going to blame others & not take responsibility! Like Dan's great leadership? Really admire how the Victorian govt in Australia take such quick decisive actions. If the British govt were so quick & lockdown the UK earlier, we'd probably have saved 1,000s of lives. Worst part is,people suspect, our govt is going to blame others & not accept responsibility.
