Victoria records 278 new coronavirus cases and eight deaths

Today's numbers represent the lowest daily death toll since August 6.

The increase of 278 is the first time the state's daily number of new cases has dipped below 300 in more than two weeks, and is Victoria's lowest daily increase since July 20, when it reported 275 cases. Stage 4 restrictions were first imposed on Melbourne about 10 days ago, including a strict night-time curfew and limiting people's movements to within a 5 kilometre radius of their home.

Other measures as part of stage 4, such as closing many businesses and limiting access to childcare, only took effect halfway through last week. Premier Daniel Andrews has said in recent days it was too early to determine the exact effect stage 4 restrictions were having on case numbers.More to come.

Great news that the trend is starting to drop, bad news that people are still dying. Hope the deaths stop soon.

Great news!!! Keep it up y'all!! Where the negging Murdoch trolls today? All quiet on the ranch...

Why do coppers wear black uniforms?

problem is Victoria is over testing well beyond pathology capability & contact tracing. Results of massive testing are being delayed, lost & just not done. Test results up to 14 days old are being added on occasions to daily figures exploding out numbers. It's wrong & misleading.

Hope this is a positive news that we are getting control of the situation

Notice no celebrities, sportspeople or politicians have been infected in this deadly second wave?

Clearly the peak will be less than June 2019 death spike (+1789 deaths) so hard to see how we cant go back to stage 3 within 2 weeks. The risk of calamity is not realistic as we can keep tweaking controls now. Aiming for zero transmission negligent optimism without perspective.

What a great relief to see cases coming down below 300. C’mon Victoria!

Great news but would anyone care to explain the influx of Victorian and NSW travellers into North Queensland. Winter season is almost over, and caravan parks that usually have low occupancy are full. Are they not supposed to be in their own states.

Keep up the fight. You’ve got this Victoria! 🙌🏻 💪🏻 FlattenTheCurve StayHomeStaySafe WearAMask PhysicalDistancing GetTested

Time to relax and f*ck it up again. Yay! auspol
