Victoria has recorded 43 new coronavirus cases, keeping the closely watched figure in the double digits for the eighth consecutive day as debate continues over Melbourne's curfew.
Friday's case tally comes after 51 new infections were reported on Thursday, 76 on Wednesday, 55 on Tuesday and 41 on Monday. Meanwhile, the key crossbench MP who guaranteed the Andrews government’s state of emergency powers wantsReason Party upper house MP Fiona Patten believes the curfew should go. As the controversy raged, lawyers and industry groups representing the night-time economy said the curfew had impinged on people’s rights, inflicted financial pain on the retail sector and led to shoppers congregating in larger numbers during the daytime.

Deaths haven't changed at all, been pretty constant the whole time & nearly all in nursing homes all along, to which lockdown made no difference. We let it in then boarded them up, then for some reason shut down the whole state only to maintain the same death rate.

Slow and steady - the trend is very encouraging if the mystery cases continue to be resolved (in the days following the daily number), I can see by late Oct., the practical states of Vic & NSW (& maybe SA) reopening their borders. It’s only logical.
Seems the 14 day figure is around 68 today (pending reclassification) so massive improvement even in the 5 seconds since this article was released.
