Victorian health authorities are investigating a potential transmission of the UK variant of COVID-19 within one of the state’s quarantine hotels | paulsakkal

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting environmental testing at the hotel, including a further review of ventilation systems.

A woman tested positive for the UK strain of the virus, which is more infectious than the original version, after a family of five in the opposite hotel room tested positive days earlier. Her husband arrived in the same room on January 16 and the women agreed to restart her 14-day period of isolation. The family of five, including two adults in their 40s and children aged 1, 4 and 7, began their stay in a floor on the same level of the Park Royal Hotel on January 20 after arriving from Nigeria.

Three days later, the woman in her 60s staying in the room opposite the family also contracted the same strain, as did her husband.
