US and South Korea test-fire missiles in retaliation to North Korean strikes

, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said a bilateral exercise saw four missiles fired into the East Sea on Wednesday morning .

The UIPC released another statement on Tuesday confirming US Marine Corps fighters had joined Japanese Air Self-Defence Force fighters in a bilateral exercise over the East Sea. “The U.S.-Japan Alliance remains committed to peace and prosperity through the region in order to secure a free and open Indo-Pacific. Our commitment to the defence of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad.”resulted in Japanese citizens being urged to take cover as the ballistic flew over the country before plunging into the Pacific Ocean.

The exercise was the fifth in 10 days and comes amid an escalation in tensions following US Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to South Korea.
