Fewer than half of eligible Queenslanders have had a third dose of COVID vaccine with authorities concerned the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron could cause case rises heading into winter.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would receive an update about the risks of the sub-variant at the national cabinet meeting on Friday afternoon, and she would meet with the Chief Health Officer John Gerrard as well.

“We really need you to get your booster. If you have not had your booster, please get it,” Ms Palaszczuk said.Queensland is languishing with the worst booster rate in the country with less than half of eligible people – 47.43 per cent – having had the third shot. “There is no doubt that this is a three dose vaccine, we need that third dose to be as protected as we can be from Omicron and any other variants,” Professor Mackay said.

Despite the urgency of people getting their third shot, the state government has not mandated boosters, in line with federal advice from vaccine advisory body ATAGI. In Queensland the vaccine mandate which limits the venues which unvaccinated people can enter is based on the two-shot definition of fully vaccinated, and a significant proportion of people would not meet the definition if the mandate was extended to three doses.

No, im not putting anymore of that useless crap into my body. If I still got covid after being double vaxxed how the hell will it protect me from another variant? It’s over.

Don't think I will

Another excuse to extend the State of emergency thats due to expire. How are they finding new variants when my local hospital won't even submit pcr tests.

No

How many months between boosting? Is it 3 Because some of the Dec21 boosted will now be at 3 months.
