Unscheduled public holiday to remember Queen Elizabeth plunges hospitals, small businesses into chaos

Announcing the one-off public holiday on Sunday, Mr Albanese said he encouraged "all Australians, wherever you may be, to take time to pause and reflect on Her Majesty’s extraordinary life of service".In Canberra, a National Memorial Service will be held in the Great Hall of Parliament House at 11am and will be followed by one minute’s silence.

Casual teachers will sacrifice a day's pay for HM, while permanent and temp staff will receive a day's pay.

I am outraged. As a casual worker I have lost money that I had budgeted for. The government talks about cost of living pressures on families yet takes a days wage off them to mourn a queen. This is an ill thought out decision by an out of touch government. 😡
