'Unreasonable': government won't compile missing children numbers l begley_patrick

The NSW government is refusing to say how many children living in out-of-home care have gone missing long-term on its watch. It claims compiling the cases would require an "unreasonable" diversion of resources.

This girl, who disappeared from state care in 2012 and is presumed dead, cannot be identified without permission from a coroner under new laws passed last year. A request to identify her has not yet been considered.“If they don’t have that information, that’s a big problem,” a relative and former carer of the girl said. “Surely they have it.”

In the case of the unnamed girl, police failed to correct basic errors in missing persons appeals, including her eye-colour, and took eight months to issue a media release about her disappearance. Emma Colvin, a Charles Sturt University lecturer who has studied authorities’ responses to children missing from care, said going missing for more than three months “puts them in the high risk category instantly.”

The new Minister for Family and Community Services, Gareth Ward, did not answer questions but responded with a generic statement. In response to detailed questions, the minister, Mr Ward, issued a four-line statement about staff co-operating with police and the importance of child safety.

begley_patrick Even if we aren't given names we must know the numbers of children who go missing. And when they are found. (If they are found.)It should be updated regularly. I expect we shall all be shocked by the numbers of these missing and vulnerable children.

School lollipop man accused of sexually abusing children, baby to make child porn filmsMichael Cyril Hyde, a 60-year-old traffic warden at a school in Perth's western suburbs for more than a decade, faces court over child sex offences. What happened to the working with children check? I know someone who does this work and apart from the fact that it sounds really dangerous I know they had to have all the checks done. The WWC is only valid until these people are caught - do you really think WWC cardholders do not include pedophiles? Horrific if found guilty.

The next Crocodile Dundee? Government hopes Top End Wedding will boost tourist numbersThe NT Government invested $1.5 million in Top End Wedding and is hoping that the movie will have as big an impact as Crocodile Dundee did back in 1986. Whenever something has such a contrived purpose like being 'iconic' it always ends up being rubbish. People can tell straight away if something is truly organic and natural. People are sick of 'message shows' The title!? Perhaps Crocodile's Wedding

Assistant treasurer accuses Labor of lying about negative gearing numbers | Sky News AustraliaAssistant Treasurer Stuart Robert is the latest Coalition MP to accuse Chris Bowen of ‘lying’ about the data sets behind Labor’s negative gearing reforms.\n\nHis comments echo those of Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, who said Mr Bowen had been ‘caught out’ after the Australian Bureau of Statistics denied it had produced data showing that only seven per cent of property investors bought new homes.\n\nThe Shadow Treasurer has used those figures repeatedly to back his housing policy, but Mr Robert says the ABS ‘doesn’t collect the data that is purported to be relied upon’.\n\nMr Bowen is defending the costings, saying the source of the figures was the Parliamentary Budget Office, which had consulted with the ABS and the RBA over owner-occupier lending data.\n\n\n\n\n\n stuartrobertmp I don't trust Stuart with numbers. stuartrobertmp Remembering, Robert is the man who charges the tax payers $24,000 a month for internet access, who should we trust ! Bowen caught out on negative gearing numbersOpposition Treasury spokesman Chris Bowen has been caught using inaccurate figures to promote Labors negative gearing policy, after the Australian Bureau of Statistics denied claims it produced data showing only 7 per cent of property investors bought new homes. Isn't the correct term for Chris Bowen 'Shadow Treasurer'? not 'Opposition Treasury spokesman'? He quite literally makes the policies, he doesn't just get up on a podium and talk about them. Have you guys at the Australian listened to the amount of inaccuracies that come out of Josh Frydenberg's mouth? And he's actually in government. Silly buggers, lying doesn’t pay off.
