Stratton was charged with murder and held in custody for 46 days before being granted bail, meaning he was unable to attend his father's funeral.
Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth said Stratton had been placed "in a totally invidious and unenviable position" by his father continually asking for his help to end his life."You finally pulled the trigger spontaneously, out of love, and a respect for his wishes, not out of any self-interest."Judge Hollingworth noted Stratton had significantly suffered mentally since the incident.
"You have suffered and continue to suffer in a range of extra-currial ways, including the serious decline in your mental health," she said. The Judge said Stratton had also been punished by the threat of a murder conviction and his time on remand. "This is a case where justice should be tempered by mercy.
