National unemployment figures are due to be released on Thursday, with the rate expected to have risen to five per cent for March.

Economists forecast the unemployment rate has risen 0.1 per cent from 4.9 per cent in February.

The RBA says a lift in the unemployment rate, combined with stagnant inflation, could warrant an interest rate cut later in the year.
