The United Nations' leading voice on human rights has flagged serious concerns with Australia's asylum seeker policies.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet has flagged her concern with Australia's 'public narrative' on asylum seekers."It is particularly striking to note how much hostility against migrants is whipped up in online spaces and in the media, where hate flourishes, and how rapidly these attitudes can become part of the public discourse," she said.
"Desperate human beings seeking safety and dignity are victims, not criminals; they are people just like us – tired and in need. And they are moving – many of them – because they have no other choice."
