Britain has rejected Australia's request to be immediately exempted from its new coronavirus quarantine scheme but has opened the door to a special deal in the coming months.
Some members of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's cabinet fear the system will have little effect on reducing the scale of the UK's outbreak but cause major economic damage to the already struggling tourism and travel industries.Heathrow Airport's chief official warned an "open-ended blanket quarantine" would crush any remaining demand for air travel and "turn a health pandemic into an unemployment pandemic".
