Sydney and Melbourne were invited to join a global pledge to adopt a 'Planetary Health Diet' of less than 300g of meat a week, but didn't sign up | NickdMiller

Mayors from 14 of the world's biggest cities have pledged to radically cut down the amount of meat they serve in schools, hospitals and other public buildings, so adults will get less than 300 grams of meat - about the equivalent of two fillet steaks - a week.

But he added, "This is an important conversation for Australia to have … one that Australia has to have." Reece agreed it was "very true" in Australia that the national government was failing to do its part to help hold global warming to below 1.5 degrees, a limit intended to avoid the worse effects of climate change.

But Reece said vehicle congestion charges and low emission zones - which have proved hugely successful in cutting emissions in cities around the world - were still politically unachievable in Australia."I personally support congestion charging; in fact I think it's inevitable," he said. "But there is this visceral reaction to it among political leaders in Australia."

NickdMiller Good, what a load of useless hot air...

NickdMiller Good! If people want to eat meat let them. You can't dictate to people how much of anything they can eat. I would have 4 times that in a standard week.

NickdMiller Have to read

NickdMiller Geeez - anyone want to buy my barbecue? And what am I gunna do with all my chops ffs? No wonder these idiots look like something from the Adams Family! Why do they reckon we have been born with incisors? Lettuce is not that tough.

NickdMiller As if the Sydney and Melbourne City Councils have the authority to adopt this measure. Their signing up would be a joke and would mean nothing.

jimmalo7 NickdMiller Thankfully, I don't live in either of those cities.

NickdMiller Surely 3000 grams a week

NickdMiller Ah yes, let's ignore the fact that most damaging and highest % of emissions is caused by greedy corporations and focus on the tiny % that is meat
