The two men who were shot by police near the Victoria-New South Wales border were being sought for questioning by Counter Terrorism Command detectives.
The men, who police believe are brothers, were inside a car at a camping ground on Old Barnawartha Road in Barnawartha North, west of Albury, around 3pm today when local police attempted to intercept the vehicle. Police allege the driver of the car rammed the police patrol car before the men got out of the car armed with weapons.
As officers approached the men, one of them moved towards police and was shot. After the second man refused to drop his weapon, he was sprayed with capsicum spray and then tasered. However, as neither the spray or taser subdued him, he too was shot.Acting Assistant Commissioner Clive Rust said one of the men was armed with a knife, while the other was armed with what appeared to be a tomahawk.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Clive Rust said the CTC detectives were not in the area in relation to any planned threat to the Victorian community, but were attempting to locate and identify the pair.Related Articles
