The Melbourne-born entertainer, whose career spanned six decades, 21 Logie Awards, including the Gold Logie in 1975, is being remembered as a beloved “Aussie icon” after his death on Sunday.Radio announcer Ernie Sigley behind the microphone at Melbourne's radio station 3DB.Five years later, at the age of 19, he made his television debut hosting Teenage Mailbag on Channel 7.He returned to Australia and hosted the Ernie Sigley Show from 1974 to 1976 alongside Denise Drysdale.

Mark Holden took to Twitter to share his tribute, writing Vale Ernie – I love you and will miss your generosity – thx for my first big break when you auditioned me for Adelaide tonight in 1972 – love to Glenys and the family”. Mark Davidson, who produced Sigley’s program on 3AW for several years, said “Ern was the funniest, cheekiest person I’ve worked with. A great interviewer. He had a great impact on me as a kid producer”.
Peter Ford said Sigley had “a unique larrikin style made it look easier than it really is. TV, radio, recording success and live concerts – what a great career! But his greatest pride was his family”.
