Turkey has recorded its highest number of daily COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.

More than 42,000 cases have been confirmed in the past 24 hours bringing the country’s total number to just over 3.4 million.

Cases have surged after the government eased restrictions in March and earlier this week the president announced a full nationwide weekend lockdown for the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan.
