Trump urges no gatherings higher than 10 people to fight coronavirus

US President Donald Trump has issued new guidelines to limit the spread of the coronavirus, including recommending people avoid social gatherings of more than 10 people, cancel discretionary travel plans, and stop going to bars and restaurants.The major US stock markets plunged on Monday despite the US Federal Reserve's decision a day earlier to slash interest rates to zero.

The Dow Jones finished down by almost 3000 points, or 12.93 per cent, the biggest single-day drop in history. At the daily White House coronavirus briefing, Trump struck a far more sombre and serious tone than he has at any other point during the crisis."We have an invisible enemy," Trump said. "This is bad in the sense that it's so contagious. It's just so contagious. It is sort of record-setting type contagion."Asked if he stood by his previous claim that the US had the outbreak under control, he said: "No, that's not under control for any place in the world.

Predicting that the outbreak could last until July or August, Trump said the US economy may well tip into recession.But he declined to accept responsibility for problems with the US response, including the slow rollout of testing kits and recent chaos at major American airports.
