Sources close to Donald Trump say he is plotting a way to end the Ukraine war but it ‘involves ceding territory to Russia ’.
Members of the opposition party, the Republicans, have stymied the package in the House of Representatives, partly at Mr Trump’s urging. Should Mr Trump win the election in November, he will regain the presidency in January of next year, and with it, the power to dictate foreign policy. Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban claimed Mr Trump had told him he would “not give a single penny” for the war.
The House returns from a fortnight’s recess this week, and Mr Johnson has indicated it will take up the issue, along with possible funding for both Israel and Taiwan.
