US contributor Cameron Stewart says the first presidential debate overnight between US President Trump and Democratic nominee JoeBiden was 'a cage fight' that resulted in an evening with little substance.

US contributor Cameron Stewart says the first presidential debate overnight between US President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden was "a cage fight" that resulted in an evening with little substance. "It was just a brutal blood sport," he said. "I've never seen a debate where the candidates literally couldn't finish a sentence.

"As a result, there was no thinking or lucidity to what either candidate was saying and so you ended up just watching it for the spectacular interruptions." Mr Stewart said the danger for President Trump was if he was seen to push Mr Biden too hard, he could come off as a "bully", ultimately reflecting the hyper-partisan nature of US politics.

JoeBiden Definitely the worst debate I've ever seen. Trump ranted blatant lies and racist dog whistles aimed at stirring up his cretin supporters as per usual, and Joe Biden was barely conscious most of the time. America's so fucked.

‘Will you shut up man’: Trump and Biden get personal in first debate | Sky News AustraliaThe first US presidential debate has quickly turned ugly with Joe Biden asking Donald Trump to “shut up man”.\n\nPresident Trump tried to command the stage from the beginning of the debate by interrupting his rival to make his point clear. \n\nPresident Trump claimed Biden will capitulate to the Left of his party on healthcare, arguing 'Joe, you agreed with Bernie Sanders, who is far left, on the manifesto, we call it, and that gives you socialised medicine'.\n\n'Look, hey. I'm not going to listen to him. The fact of the matter is, I beat Bernie Sanders,' Biden said.\n\nBiden however lost his patience with the president after being repeatedly interrupted by him during Tuesday night’s debate.\n\n“Would you shut up, man?” the former vice president told Trump.\n\nBiden then claimed the debate-which was only 20 minutes in- was “so un-presidential”.\n\n'That was a productive segment, wasn't it? Keep yapping man.'\n\nHillary Clinton has even taken to Twitter to admit she would have loved to tell Donald Trump to “shut up” in her 2016 debate against the president.\n\n “Will you shut up, man' is the line of the night. I feel so sorry for Hillary right now because I’m positive she wanted to say that and couldn’t,” Tweeted Jill Filipovic.\n\nMs Clinton responded saying “you have no idea”.\n JoeBiden realDonaldTrump Neither of them is a proper statesman. JoeBiden realDonaldTrump Trump should have been a little less interrupting when Biden spoke, just so Biden could fall over into his usual display of not making sense! I still go for Trump though! JoeBiden realDonaldTrump Asking to shut up? More like losing his temper and emotions and thus showing his real personality.
