The French President has declared two fellow countrymen as national heroes following their acts of bravery during the Bondi stabbing massacre.
Mr Guerot was assisted by friend and fellow French national Silas Despreaux, as they stopped Cauchi from reaching a section of the Westfield shopping centre where children had been playing. "During last weekend's horrendous attack in #Sydney, two of our countrymen, Silas Despreaux and Damien Guerot showed great courage in trying to stop the attacker," he wrote.
"I say this to Damien Guerot, who is dealing with his visa applications, that you are welcome here, you are welcome to stay for as long as you like," he said. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said"all New Zealanders" were thinking of those affected by the events in Bondi. Prince William and Princess Kate issued a joint statement, praising"the heroic emergency responders who risked their own lives to save others" while also saying they were"shocked and saddened by the terrible events".
