Breaking: An overturned truck is threatening to cause disruptions to traffic near the airport on the final day of school holidays as emergency services work to clean up debris left on the road | GeorgieCooke

The M5 East westbound on-ramp from Marsh and West Botany Street at Arncliffe has been closed after the truck crashed at the entrance of the tunnel about 6am on Friday.Emergency services remain at the scene and are cleaning up the metal debris that spilled from the truck. However, westbound traffic is moving at a normal speed.

Transport Management Centre spokesman Alf Paranihi said while the truck hasn't been a major impediment to traffic, motorists could expect delays after peak hour once the truck has been cleared and engineers move in to check no major structural damage has been caused to the gantry.Motorists travelling through the area have been advised to allow for extra travel time as it is expected the truck will not be moved for several hours.

Westbound traffic has been advised to use the D5 diversion route via West Botany Street, Wickham Street, Forest Road, Stoney Creek Road and King Georges Road to join the motorway at Beverly Hills. Motorists leaving the international or domestic terminals should use Airport Drive, Drive and General Holmes Drive to access the M5 East.
