Tropical Cyclone Kimi intensifies to a category two as it moves south, but the bureau warns there is 'considerable uncertainty' remaining over where the system will track.

Tropical Cyclone Kimi has intensified to a category two as it moves south, with a Cyclone Watch now declared to Bowen. The BOM says it's expected to weaken, and is unlikely to cross the coastTowns from Innisfail to Ayr, in Far North Queensland, including Lucinda, Palm Island and Townsville are in the warning zone.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Laura Boekel said the expectation was for the system to start to weaken tonight, or tomorrow morning."The latest guide no longer has Kimi crossing the coast, but it does have it meandering in the ocean, weakening as it moves south and looping back and continuing to weaken as it moves north up the coast as a low pressure system," she said.

"The most likely scenario is what we have on our track maps, however, we're not ruling a crossing of category two."
