Tributes pour in for zookeeper following lion attack

Tributes have poured in for the zookeeper mauled by lions at Shoalhaven Zoo on Friday as police continue their investigation into the attack.

The zoo asked supporters to “continue to pray for her and her family” in its first public statement since the attack. “Love 2 jen n hopeful of a quick recovery,” Dianne Kostrubiec wrote. “Look forward to seeing her back at zoo.” Celia Compton also wished Ms Brown a speedy recovery: “We met Jen last year at the zoo during one of her keeper talks and she is such a lovely girl who loves her job.”

There’s no reason at all for those cats to face euthanasia & I’m sure the keeper would agree! She signed up for that job & was distracted/cleaning without backup. The zoo should be held accountable since they were clearly not following protocol!

Why was she cleaning the enclosure while they were in it?

Why do we still have big cats in zoos

This mistake of trusting big cats, if I am not mistaken has happend before (Sydney?). Why lessons were not learnt and the situation repeated? Big cats can never be trusted fully and any peculiar action on part of the keeper may trigger stalking and attacking action by big cats!

I hope she recovers. And I hope lions are not kept in zoos from now on.

Hope the big cat is ok. When freedom is deprived, and not many around to soothe it, maybe it’s difficult for it & zookeeper.

Silly bugger, hope she recovers quickly.
