Treasury Wine Estates chief executive Michael Clarke is concerned Penfolds wine could become a "pawn" in the US-Chinese trade war and has urged Australian politicians not to inflame tensions between the two countries.

on trade with China, saying the country was no longer a developing nation and did not deserve trade concessions.Michael Clarke, Treasury Wine Estates CEO Mr Clarke said the company wanted to move its distribution operations in China from exporting via containers to a warehouse model, which meant selling directly to retailers via a bricks and mortar warehouse model. However, that plan was interrupted by the trade tensions.
