Treasurer JoshFrydenberg says there is cause for “optimism and hope” despite grim forecasts for Australia’s economic and population growth.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says there is cause for “optimism and hope” despite grim forecasts for Australia’s economic and population growth. Following a National Press Club address, Mr Frydenberg was asked whether the nation could expect to see an older and poorer population following budget predictions for little economic growth.

The treasurer conceded the economy would contract and Australia’s population growth would be the lowest in more than 100 years due to coronavirus-induced border closures, but said they were not permanent figures. "The trends will start to turn around for the economy," he said. “The Australian economy will continue to grow, population growth will come back.”

JoshFrydenberg This is what this lot have done. Better money managers my arse. We were una depression even before covid hit. Now a trillion in debt.

JoshFrydenberg Who wants endless population growth? People are not consumption or tax cattle. That’s no way to run a society. We have a good population and don’t need any more. Rebuild manufacturing, build inland irrigation, return to some self sufficiency.

JoshFrydenberg So our govt overreacts to a new virus, creating hysteria; Then they FORCE healthy working people (who are at virtually no risk) to stop working and lockdown, CREATING MASS UNEMPLOYMENT; Now they want us to be grateful they are “SOLVING” the problem they created by spending big.

JoshFrydenberg ConservativeContraception 1st

JoshFrydenberg Does that mean he's resigning? That would give me optimism and hope for Australia's future.

JoshFrydenberg Optimism and hope; two things the left despise.

Politicians have ‘buried us’ in an economic hole: Alan Jones | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Alan Jones says Tuesday will be chilling proof of how politicians have buried Australia in an economic hole so deep it may never get out.\n\nThe 2020-2021 budget – to be announced by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg on Tuesday night – will reportedly bring forward $7.5 billion worth of projects in a bid to stimulate jobs growth and kickstart economic recovery.\n\nAustralia’s debt ceiling, though, is expected to be lifted above $1.1 trillion when the budget is announced.\n\nThe debt cap would take the gross debt to GDP ratio to around 55 per cent, which would mark the highest level since the 1950s. \n\nMr Jones said the public has been told this Liberal government will “now spend whatever it takes”.\n\n“A billion here, $10 billion there, a one-year deficit north of $200 billion. Morrison government can and will be 'held responsible' for economic recovery | Sky News AustraliaPrime Minister Scott Morrison’s authority has “never been greater” but Australians will soon start asking whether he can “save their jobs, and reboot their industries,” according to Peta Credlin.\n\nTreasurer Josh Frydenberg will hand down his government’s budget on Tuesday night, which is expected to confirm massive government deficit and unprecendented levels of debt.\n\nMs Credlin said the Morrison government cannot be held responsible for the economic consequences of the pandemic as it “had no choice” to lock Australians down.\n\n“But the government can and will be held responsible for what it does now in terms of recovery,” she said.\n\n“Either we'll enter a new era of people looking to government to bail them out; funded by an expectation that government can defy the laws of economics, and borrow more-or-less, forever.\n\n“Bringing up a generation of young people who think the world owes them a living, that a job is optional, and that getting something for nothing is worth bragging about.\n\n“Or we'll accept that this pandemic really was unprecedented, and return as quickly as possible to budget responsibility, based on the understanding that all of us – government too – have to live within our means.\n\n“Right now, Scott Morrison's authority has never been greater. People are grateful that he's shepherded us through this pandemic.\n\n“Soon enough, though, they'll be asking whether he can save their jobs, reboot their industries – and that's why it's so important that tonight, this is a budget to boost productive private markets.\n\n“Rather than just deliver ever more government spending, given the damage so many premiers have done, playing popularity games, with border closures.”\n\n ScottMorrisonMP Thanks Sherlock ScottMorrisonMP
