Treasurer confirms Tamil family will be reunited on Australian shores

A family of Tamil asylum seekers detained on Christmas Island since 2019 will be reunited in Australia.

"The [Immigration] Minister will be making a detailed statement, but I can confirm the reports that the family will be reunited on Australian shores is correct," Mr Frydenberg said.The Murugappan family have been separated as youngest daughter Tharnicaa undergoes treatment in a Perth hospital.Immigration Minister Alex Hawke will detail new arrangements for the family later today, but it remains unknown if they will be granted new visas.More to come.
