Treasurer Jim Chalmers is returning from the United States from an “eventful pre-budget trip,” Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says.

“He was in one of the last meetings Kwasi Kwarteng had as UK Chancellor of the Exchequer before Kwarteng was sacked by Prime Minister Liz Truss in Britain,” Mr Clennell said.

“Kwarteng appeared agitated and distracted during the meetings apparently – and some of the speeches at the G20 finance ministers forum must have been uncomfortable for him – given they all stressed having your budget in line with central bank policy, and the UK Chancellor, then UK Chancellor, had gone for some big unscheduled tax cuts.

“Our Treasurer met with the Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell just hours after a surprise high annual inflation figure of 8.2 per cent was recorded in the US.”

Wages, inflation set to rise in Chalmers first budgetTreasurer Jim Chalmers says Australians are likely to see their wages rise along with inflation in forecasts to be published in his first budget later this month. Why not do something about inflation instead? Find a way to disincentivise the greedy grifters making the windfall profits that are pushing up energy prices, using OUR resources. This greedy war profiteering was a serious crime in previous periods of war! Electricity prices did not need to go up, our labour government let this happen . Thanks AustralianLabor

Commodity falls dash surplus hopes: ChalmersAustralia is not expected to return to surplus anytime within the next four years as commodity prices are level off from their recent highs, Jim Chalmers says. I think you need to clarify what 'Australia returning to Surplus' actually means, as you'll find most people assume that it means that Australia has paid off all their debt. What utter crap. There’s a structural deficit that can easily be fixed. It just requires the Lab government to be the first Government in 25 years to act in our sovereign interest, NOT for sovereign wealth looters, population ponzi parasites & global cartels. Work for us pls!
