A woman has been “violently attacked” in a terrifying home invasion in Alice Springs , as police hunt for the three men involved. Northern Territory police were called to reports three men with an axe had smashed their way through the front door of a home in East Side about 3.53am on Sunday. A woman who lived at the home was allegedly struck in the head multiple times with a baton, before being “punched in the face” by one of the men.

Police said the woman ran and hid in a bedroom while the men ransacked the residence for about 20 minutes before leaving the home with two sets of car keys. The men then returned to the home a short time later and demanded the woman leave the bedroom, before smashing in the door with the axe and stealing jewellery, a laptop and cash. “This was a particularly violent attack and would have been deeply traumatising for the victims,” Territory duty Superintendent Tanya Woodcock said.
