One of Sydney’s key arterial roads was brought to a standstill this morning after a van caught fire metres from a motorway entrance.
The van was just 200 metres from the St Peter’s M8 entrance when the fire began, triggering the sprinkler system which has succeeded in controlling the blaze, a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said. The Transport Management Centre said there is no access to the M8 to travel west from the M4 Tunnel, Rozelle Interchange, or Campbell Street.
