China has accused Australia of ruining the relationship between the two countries as new figures show tens of thousands of litres of Australian wine were blocked from entering the country in January.

“They have adopted restrictive or even discriminatory measures which have ruined the cooperative atmosphere between us,” said Vice-Minister Wang Shouwen.shows more than 20,000 litres of wine from Treasury Wine Estates, including its signature Penfold’s label, and shipments from Badger’s Brooke Estate were stopped from coming into Chongqing and Shenzhen in January due to labelling issues.

Despite trade strikes to half-a-dozen key industries in 2020 including coal, wood and seafood, Australia’s exports to China grew over the course of the year, driven by surging iron ore prices. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on February 8 that there would be no agreement to any ministerial level exchanges “at the price of conceding Australia’s sovereignty”.
