Greens leader Adam Bandt and shadow treasurer Angus Taylor have both hit out at the 2024-25 Federal Budget , with each hinting they may not support the Albanese government's signature Future Made in Australia policy ahead of a crucial vote of support in Parliament.
Despite their different political persuasions, both men were quick to highlight the lack of means testing for the government's planned $300 energy rebate, with Mr Bandt arguing it showed more could have been done to improve housing affordability. The Greens have long argued for the introduction of a national rent cap or price freeze, despite limited economic evidence to support their claim it would make housing more affordable in the long-term, and Mr Bandt insisted renters who needed immediate relief had been let down by the government.
Mr Taylor also criticised the government's lack of means testing for power rebates, but framed the issue in the broader context of new business tax credits for green energy projects, claiming the government was handing subsidies to"billionaires."
