With rapid antigen tests in short supply, but every headache suspicious, it’s hard to decide when to use a precious test. | Kerri Sackville | OPINION RAT covid19

I stood at the kitchen counter, staring intently at the sealed plastic bag in my hand. It was a rapid antigen test, one of my last. Was now the time? Was this moment RAT-worthy?

Two weeks earlier, my son had spiked a fever. Our PCRs were MIA so I gave him one of my two hoarded RATs. It was positive, which meant COVID, which meant we needed two more RATs to find out if my daughters and I had been spared.I ordered six RATs online, paid a small fortune for next day shipping, and was still waiting five days later. A generous friend donated two of her own, and my girls and I blessedly tested negative.

I paid my friend’s generosity forward and donated two RATs to an elderly woman unable to source her own. Then there were four. I figured I could buy more at the pharmacy down the road, but they were all sold out! They were all sold out online! They were all sold out everywhere! And then came the call. My partner discovered that he was a close contact, just hours after leaving my home. Suddenly, my throat began to tickle, and my chest felt unusually tight.

You are nuts. Just like most of Australia. We haven’t got a crisis – 1800 people in two years have died. That’s not a crisis. People do die. 136 people die every day in Australia of cancer.

Don't RAT. Easy

Just give ScottMorrisonMP a call and he will fix the short supply of the RAT's, oh wait, it's his fault we haven't got any!! Poor management again, caught short as usual, how much more are the Australian people going to have to endure from this man.

Morrison has failed the Australian public once again LNPCorruptionParty COVID19

You 'columnists' sound really stupid... Covid is a respiratory tract infection... its got little to do with headaches + not at all as a primary symptom... 😶 ...worse that a test (or a vaccine) does nothing to actually treat it... but there are remedies easily available...

Sorry, off topic. Please read my account before insulting me. I am a pensioner in Russia. I'm asking out of need. I feed stray cats - I can't leave them (I tried, I can't), the pension is small ($250 month), maybe you can help me? maybe cat food? maybe a retweet? Thanks Cats

Think getting a RAT in Australia is hard? Try the USIn the US, rapid test kits and results tracking are in a far more mismanaged state than in Australia. So, what’s everyone complaining about? But...but ... Albo said he could do a better job!!! 'rapid test kits and results tracking are in a far more mismanaged state than in Australia'. Most ppl can't find RATs to buy and only now is the govt pretending to care what the results are. ?VIC only state recording details, only commenced last week. Get real. Let’s not compare ourselves with the world’s most incompetent administrations in order to make ourselves feel better.
