To disregard trolls is not to turn the other cheek on them, it's to cold-shoulder them altogether. It's the form of fightback they are least able to handle. Footballers need that connection as much as anyone else. Telling them to stay away for their own good is unfair. Some take advantage of social media to connect with their fans, and for a little self-promotion, too. They enjoy the direct communication. This is the best and worst of social media, that it is unmediated.
