A new year brings a whole range of burning questions ahead of the 2023 NRL season kick-off in March.

Which off-contract stars will stay at their NRL clubs?

While most clubs will want to tie down their star players before a ball is kicked in March, others won't be afraid to hit the market. The trio are all due back to the field in Round 1 pending they get through the pre-season and we can all agree the game is in better health when they're on the park helping their teams.

Ponga has been training with the Knights throughout the pre-season with a possible switch to the halves still on the cards while Papenhuyzen remains in a rehabilitation phase after a nasty knee injury. He might not like to talk about it much but another 30 tries to Alex Johnston in 2023 will see the Rabbitohs winger get even closer to the great Ken Irvine as the all-time leading try-scorer in rugby league history.
