Time to say goodbye to the stripping rule

It is time to change the contentious new stripping rule back to how it was up until 2017, where defending teams are penalised for any strip where more than one defender is involved in a tackle.

Since then we've seen teams training for it and bring in code words so the other tacklers know when to drop off and it's really proliferated and there were heaps of examples on Sunday from the Raiders and Storm in particular. To be lured into a situation where you're trying to do that, then two guys drop off and one guy rips the ball off you, it's like entrapment. It's not in the good nature of the game, it's more of a cheap shot. It's a short cut that's rewarded above effort and energy which is what the game is really about – effort and energy and attitude.

But if it's three on one and you know you're safe from a strip then in a split second with no chance to adjust and react and change your body positioning to protect the ball, they drop off for a one-on-one strip that detracts from the good spirit of the game.

craigwing Ex easts player whinges about easts players being stripped of the ball. Don’t want to lose it, treat it with the respect it deserves. Great initiative and brings a wild card into the game. Less predictable footy is better in my book.
