Time to pick winners: BCA says new approach needed to end recession | JennieDuke swrighteconomy

The nation's peak business lobby group wants the Morrison government to pick up to 10 industry "winners" to lead the country out of the coronavirus recession as figures show a record 1 million Australians are looking for work.

The figures, compiled from a survey before the advent of Victoria's stage four lockdowns to stop the spread of the coronavirus, showed 1.01 million people formally out of work. It is the first time more than 1 million people have been on the national unemployment queue.Ms Westacott, speaking on Thursday in Canberra to a virtual town hall of GE employees, said the economic recovery required a new way of thinking about government business policy and intervention.

Accelerated investment, financial incentives and collaboration between businesses and universities had to be focused into as few as 10 areas if Australia was to recover strongly from the recession.

JennieDuke swrighteconomy Oh, can't these parasites just go away?

JennieDuke swrighteconomy So green energy. Not fossil fuels? This is not a business council. Using such a name under false pretense that they actually represent business generically needs to be called out. Even made illegal. Bit like some businesses calling themselves newspapers.

JennieDuke swrighteconomy the business council wont exist soon because they didnt stand up to begin with. PATHETIC

One million people out of work for first time: ABSMore than one million Australians are now unemployed with the official jobless measure breaking through the seven-figure mark for the first time on record. Society has to rethink the way they build their urban spaces. Just strengthen the rural economy at a lesser cost and the burden on the state and the Society would gradually come down. How many people are on Job Keeper? The real number without that support would surely double or triple the real rate. What? You haven't figured out how to blame Trump?

Coronavirus updates LIVE: Active Victorian cases drop for first time in two months; NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian warns of harsher restrictionsThe number of active coronavirus cases in Victoria fell for the first time in two months, and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has warned of harsher restrictions if she doesn't see more people in masks. At last! But I suppose one shouldn’t speak to soon. They're NOT daily by the way. The number of cases could be several days tests, aggregated together. Don't forget it takes 2-5 days, sometimes longer , to get test results back. Lobotomized people think this is irrelevant. They also think the elderly have never died of old age. Possibly lessons now re-learned from 100 years ago. Go early and go hard on lockdowns. NZ best case in point.
