Police said 33 people were on board a bus when it was involved in a crash with a vehicle towing a caravan near the Wilson Creek Rest Area on the Bruce Highway at Gumlu, south of Townsville just after 11am.
Superintendent Graeme Paine said the three people who lost their lives were female, but he could not confirm their ages.Emergency services were called to the scene after reports the vehicles had collided. "Two rescue helicopters have also been tasked to the scene," Queensland Ambulance Service said in a statement.
