Three bodies have been located in the vicinity of the area being searched for two missing Perth brothers and their American friend.

Mexican authorities have charged three people over the disappearance of two Australian brothers and their American friend who went missing during a surf trip last week. The announcement came as police work to identify three bodies found on Friday near the Pacific coast, an Ensenada government official has told the ABC. Reuters has reported a similar find, citing three unnamed sources.

A State Department spokesperson said they were aware bodies were found and are "closely monitoring the situation". Andrade Ramírez has previously expressed concern that "very important hours were lost" in the investigation, with the men only reported missing a few days ago. "We have a substantial amount of evidence and are conducting a comprehensive investigation," she told ABC on Friday, local time.
