Three A-League players are expected to be charged after police uncovered an alleged corrupt betting syndicate at a Sydney soccer club involving yellow cards.

Three A-League soccer players have been arrested after police uncovered an alleged corrupt betting scheme at a Sydney football club.

Police allege the senior player successfully controlled the number of yellow cards – which are given to players by a referee for certain on-field behaviour – during a match against Melbourne Victory on November 24, and at a match against Sydney FC on December 9. After a significant investigation into the alleged corrupt betting practices aided by the United Kingdom Gambling Commission, NSW Police arrested three players in early morning raids on Friday.

Detectives and Raptor Squad officers conducted search warrants at Parramatta, Hoxton Park and Emu Plains. At Parramatta a 27-year-old male player was arrested and taken to Parramatta Police Station, where he is also expected to be charged with one count of engaging in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome.
